Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
These ministers distribute the Eucharist (the Body and Blood of Christ) at the Mass.
A person must be at least 18 years old, have received the sacrament of Confirmation, and have completed the training in this ministry.
Training is held periodically through the year.
Lectors
The lectors read the Word of God to the congregation during Mass.
By your proclamation, the assembly should hear and feel that God’s Word is a Living Word. It is very important that those serving in this ministry take the time to practice, meditate, and reflect on the readings.
A person must have received the sacrament of Confirmation to participate in this ministry.
Training is held periodically throughout the year.
Sacristan/Mass Captain
This ministry involves set up and clean up for the masses.
Responsibilities include setting up for both Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist which means preparing all the books, vessels, offertory, and incense when appropriate. The sacristan also assists the presider with whatever details/duties he needs done. The sacristan will check to make sure the altar servers are ready and in place as well as making sure the assigned Readers and key Extraordinary Ministers are present and ready to serve.
Depending on the number of sacristans assigned to a particular mass, you may serve once or twice a month or more infrequently. Generally, the time commitment is a half hour before and a half hour after your mass.
