Elizabeth “Liz” Kenon

Elizabeth Ann Kenon, age 83, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at her home under hospice care. She was born on March 13, 1941, in Gorham, Illinois, the daughter of the late Stonie Matthew Shields and Lillie M. Bower Shields. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Dean Kenon, Sr. in 2012; her siblings, Ruth Shields Ellenberg, Samuel Sylvester Shields, PFC Elmer Matthew Shields, and Dean Shields.

Mrs. Kenon was a career beautician who found immense joy in her work. She loved having people in her chair, making each person feel special and beautiful. Her talent went beyond the skill of her hands; she had the unique ability to make each client feel valued and cared for. Her salon was more than just a place for beauty treatments—it was a sanctuary where people felt loved and appreciated.

Known for her generosity, Mrs. Kenon had a heart that overflowed with kindness. She loved to cook and always ensured everyone was well-fed, even keeping to-go plates in her pantry so you never left without extras. She gave selflessly, always thinking of others before herself. Whether it was through her work, her church activities, or her everyday interactions, Mrs. Kenon exemplified the true spirit of charity and love.

Catherine Arey

Catherine R. Arey, age 81, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away on the 8th of May, 2024. Born on December 30, 1942, in New York, New York, she lived a life marked by her steadfast spirit and nurturing heart.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted daughters, Martha Gavel and her husband Steven, Charlotte Alexander and her husband Matthew, and Elizabeth Bushey and her husband Donald. Her grandchildren, Isabella Arey, and William, Nikki, and Isaac Alexander will hold dear the wisdom and tenderness she imparted to them. Preceding her in death were her beloved wife, Georgia Arey, and her parents, Charles and Beatrice Arey. Catherine’s sister, Janet Bondo, and her husband Bruce, share in the family’s loss.

A graduate of the University of Alabama, Catherine served her country with honor as a member of the United States Army, completing two tours in Vietnam. Thereafter, she found her lifelong love, Georgia, with whom she forged an enduring bond.

Catherine will be remembered for her love of model railroading and for the joy she found in playing her harpsichord—an instrument through which she expressed her artistic soul.

Dan Heffernan

Daniel Joseph Heffernan Sr., age 94, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 11, 1929 to the late Daniel and Emma Heffernan. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ann and sons Glenn and Barry (Beth) and his three brothers, Tim, John and Robert. Dan was a proud US Army Veteran and a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. He graduated from Bentley College with an Accounting Degree. Dan is survived by his children, Daniel J. Heffernan, Kerry P. Heffernan, Joy Ann Heffernan (Paula), Lee Ann Heffernan (Peter Sternberg) and Faith Heffernan, grandchildren Rosalyn Sternberg (Kyle), Quinn Sternberg (Rachel) and Kenneth Heffernan.

Brian E. Belanger

Richard Evarts

March 16th, 2024

Richard Roy Evarts Sr., age 89, of Hampton, GA passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, March 16, 2024. He was born in Concord, NH, May 19, 1934, to the late Roy R. Evarts and Alice (Drescher) Evarts of Contoocook, NH.

Richard had one brother, Roger Allen Evarts, that resides in Myrtle Beach, SC. Richard was a very devoted husband of 53 years to Pauline Lucille Evarts who went to her eternal home in 2010; 9 children, Jean Marie (Mitch) Foreman, Marsha (Scott) Landers, Mark (Joy) Evarts, Glen Evarts (girlfriend Dawn), Jon (Michelle) Evarts, David (Mary) Evarts, Susan (Don) Doyle, Rich (Espie) Evarts, Sandra (Eddie) Cobb; 24 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Moving to Atlanta after serving in the United States Army as a captain for 2 years active duty at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia, and 3 years reserve before moving to Atlanta in 1961.

He was a master violinist who worked under Henry Sopkin, founder of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the 1940’s. Richard played with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for two years before leaving to become an orchestra teacher and music department head with the Fulton County School System for 36 years while also playing with the Atlanta Community Orchestra for decades. As a music teacher, Richard gave the gift of love and joy of music to his family, friends and many, many students.

Richard was a servant of Christ through the Roman Catholic Church his entire life, serving in many positions in the church such as catechist and choir director for many years and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. James The Apostle Catholic Church in McDonough, GA.

Richard never met a stranger. His love of people and his gregarious nature touched many lives and were simply an extension of his faith. His presence on this side of life will be greatly missed.

Jeffrey “Dale” Chambers

Jeffrey Dale Chambers, age 70, of McDonough, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2024, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Gainesville. He was born on October 20, 1953, in Seneca SC, the son of the late James Charles Chambers and Lucille Hughes Chambers.

Dale Chambers, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather, leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. Dale and his beloved wife Joanne shared a marriage that spanned nearly half a century. Together, they raised two fine young men, both of whom achieved the esteemed rank of Eagle Scouts. Dale’s dedication to his sons was unparalleled—he never missed a game or event, providing unwavering support and love that his family could always count on.

A proud Catholic, Dale was a faithful member of St. James The Apostle Catholic Church Parish. He practiced his faith with sincerity, attending Mass every week and finding solace and strength in his spiritual convictions.

Known as a friendly and approachable individual, Dale had a remarkable ability to strike up conversations with anyone. His contiguous sense of humor made him the funniest person in the room, always seeking to bring smiles and laughter to those around him. Dale’s intelligence shone through in his love for learning, leaving others in awe of his wealth of knowledge.

Professionally, Jeff, as he was known to his work colleagues, dedicated nearly three decades to providing industrial clients with material handling applications to help them succeed. His work ethic and commitment to excellence reflected his personal philosophy: “Through hard work and excellent service I add value for my clients. Old-fashioned service will outperform ‘just a price’ any day and build a solid business relationship.” This philosophy not only guided his approach to work but also earned him the prestigious Top Seller spot in his company, Indoff Material Handling, several years in a row. He took pride in his work and the accomplishments that came with it.

Barry Richardson

Mr. Barry Lee Richardson, age 77, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. He was born in Belle Fontaine, Ohio on November 27, 1946; the son of the late Charles Lee Richardson and Eva Elnora “Nora” Wood Richardson, of Marysville, Ohio.

Mr. Richardson, known for his infectious sense of humor and quick wit, left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He honorably served our country in the United States Army during Vietnam and was proud of his service.

A man of many talents and, Barry embarked on a journey through three distinct careers, leaving an impact at every turn. From his days with Roadway, to his dedicated service in Henry County, and later his time at Kroger Stores, Barry was not only a loyal and diligent worker but also a good friend to his colleagues.

A patient and kind man, Barry was a lover of animals having multiple dogs over the years and was later converted to a cat person, supporting a menagerie of, at times, up to 9 cats!

When he finally retired for the last time, he pursued his passions of working in his garden and following the weather on his amateur weather station.

A devoted and faithful man, Barry found solace and community at St. James The Apostle Catholic Church in McDonough, GA. There, he was not only a member of the Knights of Columbus but lent his voice to the choir, filling the sacred space with his strong bass voice. His spiritual commitment mirrored the unwavering love and commitment he showed in his 58-year marriage to his bride.

Above all, Barry Richardson was a family man. As a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he found joy in the company of his loved ones. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth that comes from a lifetime of shared experiences. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be part of his world.

He leaves behind his spouse, Maureen Cooke Richardson; son, Kevin; grandchildren, Brendan, Mai and Moe; great-grandchildren, Logan, Miller and Avery; siblings, Dale, Jack and Scott and several nieces and nephews and three cats!
